Joburg’s biggest and best cycle race is coming, and this year it’s happening in reverse! The 947 Cycle Challenge is on 18 November, and as always, it goes right through Fourways. (Those cyclists need something to lift their spirits.)
What do you mean, “backwards”?
Instead of Steyn City being just before the finish line, cyclists get to start out with those hills. However, all the highlights are the same, like whizzing over the Nelson Mandela Bridge and zooming around the Kyalami Race Track.
Something for everyone
If you’re not a road cycler, there’s also a mountain bike route. Choose between 25 and 55km on 11 November, or opt for the 10km route on 10 November. Instead of flying down the M1, you’ll be enjoying the scenery of privately owned land. Remember to keep your eyes on the trail though.
If you’ve got a sporty youngster between 2 and 10, enter them into the kiddie race on 10 November.
Ride for a purpose
Got a cause close to your heart? Then make your race extra meaningful by riding with one of the many charity groups that are registered. Last year, R15.2 million was raised for 116 charities, and since 2011, a whopping R82.1 million has been raised! Bonus: charity groups have special start times, so you don’t have to get going with the masses.
Let’s do this thing!
Enter on the 947 Cycle Challenge site and get access to free training resources. You’ll be in line to win R85 000 worth of cycling gear too, if the drive time team of Greg and Lucky choose you to be their replacement. What are you waiting for? Get on your bike!
