Apparently songbird Celine Dion said, “If God would have a singing voice, he must sound a lot like Andrea Bocelli.” Well, luckily for us, Bocelli is coming to Fourways and performing at the Ticketpro Dome on 18 April!
The concert will be divided into two parts. In the first, we’ll be treated to Bocelli performing arias from famous operas. The second half of the show will be dedicated to his most popular crossover songs. He has worked with some of our favourite stars, like Ed Sheeran and Josh Groban.
The maestro will be backed by the 140 piece Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg. It’s going to be spectacular!
Last year Bocelli released Si, his first album of original material in 14 years. The 16 brand new songs are about love, hope, family and faith. His pal Ed Sheeran is on it, along with Josh Groban, Dua Lipa and classical soprano Aida Garifullina.
The highlight, however, is ‘Fall On Me’, a poignant duet with Bocelli’s 20-year-old son, Matteo. Of course, it’s about the bond between a parent and child. Andrea explains how his voice compares with Matteo’s: “Technically they are very different, but there is one thing that makes them most similar: the attitude. That characteristic way of expressing yourself through your voice. This makes Matteo and I very similar. But that is something that you cannot learn, that cannot be taught. That is something you are born with.” Will Matteo be gracing the stage with his dad at the Dome? Yes!
A talented tenor
Since he was a young boy, Bocelli has been a skilled musician. He started playing the piano at 6, and went on to learn to play the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums. By the time he was 7, he was emulating the voices of great singers. Now that’s talent!
