February 5 marks the Lunar New Year, and 2019 is the Year of the Pig. According to Chinese astrology, that means we’re (mostly) headed for a year of good fortune, as pigs are symbols of wealth. Their chubby faces and big ears are also signs of prosperity. No body shaming here!
Who’s a Pig?
If you were born in the following years, you fall under the sign of the Pig: 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019. (If you were born in 2019 and are reading this, congratulations on being so smart!)
Your personality is down to earth, stable and honest. You are not afraid of hard work and like to enjoy life’s luxuries. However, Pigs are sometimes too trusting of others and can be taken advantage of.
Famous Pigs include Magic Johnson, Amy Winehouse, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hillary Clinton.
What’s in store
The predictions for all of us, regardless of our star sign, is a year of prosperity. As Pigs are signs of wealth, 2019 will be a good year for investments – so get saving! It will also be auspicious for relationships, particularly friendships. Travel will also be on the cards for many of us. (It’s a good thing that we’ll all be having a prosperous year!)
Pigs are lovers of life, so follow their example and appreciate what is around you. You don’t have to be swimming in cash to enjoy the company of your friends and family, or even soak up the beauty of nature.

To welcome the Year of the Pig in style, gather your family and friends. Traditionally people eat spring rolls and dumplings to symbolise wealth, sweet rice balls for family, and fish and long noodles for happiness and prosperity. We’ll be getting ours from Kung Fu Kitchen in Waterford!
It’s customary to clean your house before the celebrations and then hang red decorations.
Happy New Year!
