Shop the colour of the year

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Colour of the year

Are you ready to shop the newest trend? (We always are!) We’re filling our lives with Pantone’s colour of the year 2019: Living Coral. We like to think of this shade as the love child of peachy pink and cheeky orange. Pantone, who set the standards for colours and their combinations, said that Living Coral is a balance between the calming world of nature and our frenetic digital lives. As soon as we saw it, we were in love, so we hit up Fourways Mall to see how we could get more of it in our wardrobes.

Ready to run
Staying motivated to run during the holidays is easy with these bright Odyssey React shoes by Nike. They are light, durable, comfy and breathable – basically perfect. In this vibrant colour, you’ll feel invincible as soon as you slip these sneakers on. Confession: we’re not the most dedicated runners, but we will defs be adding these to our regular wardrobe for a dose of sports luxe.

Beach vibes
Rule the pool in these shorty shorts from Mr Price. They are soft and drapey, with an elasticated waist for comfort and turned up legs for flirty style. Wear them to the beach with your cozzie or with a statement tee for a relaxed braai with friends.

Butter me up
We love the Body Shop for their environmentally friendly beauty products. Pamper yourself with this mango body butter and be uplifted by its pretty colour, fruity fragrance and luscious texture. Your skin will be nourished and happy, and you’ll feel like you just got back from a tropical holiday.

Silky soft
This flutteringly light scarf from Poetry offsets Living Coral with a deep navy blue. Drape it around your neck, knot it in your hair or use it to adorn your handbag and give whatever you are wearing a summery pop of colour.

Where will you be partying it up in Fourways?

We love Miniso!

fourways mall miniso

There’s a brand-new store at Fourways Mall that we cannot get enough of! Miniso is a Japanese brand that has just the right blend of cute, quirk and cool – not to mention being super reasonable when it comes to price. It’s no wonder we’re in love with it.

Everything you can dream of
First things first. Miniso has everything. We’re talking perfume, kids’ toys, shoes, bins, pens, sunglasses, cotton wool, headphones, bags, chopsticks, washi tape, goggles, massagers, toothbrushes, earrings, lunchboxes. And that’s just in aisle 1. Jokes – it’s spread out across the store. If you want something, you can be pretty sure Miniso has it.

That means cute in Japanese, and it’s exactly what you’ll find at Miniso. They have plush toys, zany socks, bears on teacups, Pink Panther USB cables… Where else can you get cute eyemasks for just R30?

Stop at Miniso for festive decor and stocking fillers for everyone. We won’t tell if a present (or 2) for yourself falls into your basket. Completely by accident, of course.

Miniso is at Fourways Mall, just around the corner from Jet, close to entrance 3.

Party season means black dresses!

Every woman needs at least 1 (but in our dreams that number has a 0 after the 1) black dress. The perfect dress can take you from slaying a corporate presentation to swirling around the dance floor. We went to Fourways Mall in search of the ultimate party frocks.

Too pretty
Mr Price has got some super pretty dresses, but we couldn’t resist this skater one with its mesh skirt, embellished bodice and plunging back.

Mostly black
A wrap dress hugs and flatters curves beautifully. Add a delicate petal pattern and you are summer party ready in this lovely number from Trenery at Woolworths.

Dotty for this dress
This Aviva surface dot dress from Poetry is embellished with 3D dots and has a gorgeous fit and flare shape.

Sometimes you’re just not in a dressy mood. Fear not! This jumpsuit from Forever New is comfy, elegant and oh-so-pretty with its ruffled sleeves.

Live video chat with Santa at Fourways Mall!

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Santa

Everything’s digital these days – even Santa! At the moment, he only has an account for IMs – including video chat. When he gets on Instagram, we’ll def be following. We bet his reindeer pics would be off. The. Charts. Santa is also, like the rest of us, in a mad rush to get ready for Christmas, so it makes sense that he’d rather say hi to children online while he works away at the North Pole getting everything ready for Christmas Eve.

Live from the North Pole
Santa has added Fourways Mall as a contact so he can video chat with people there. Little ones walk the red carpet, step up to the giant screen and see Santa in his office at the North Pole. You can organise a special surprise for your kids by having the present they ask Santa for already wrapped and given to them by the Fourways Mall helper elves!

Santa is online from 10am to 12pm on weekends, and 12pm to 2pm Monday to Friday, until 24 December. Find him between Dis-Chem and @Home!

A mean party
Whenever we’re in the mood for feather boas and the reddest lipstick, we go to Chicago’s Piano Bar at Waterford. On Friday 7 December, we’re switching the boas for dancing shoes – the lipstick stays – for a performance by Mean Mr Mustard. They’ve got a new album coming soon, so expect some fresh songs and your old favourites. Entry is free and happy hour ends at 6pm, so get there early.

Market time
For handmade goodies, nothing beats a market, and this weekend we’re spoiled for choice. The Fourways Farmers Market is hosting a night market on 7 and 8 December, complete with sparkly lights. For daytime options, check out the vintage market at the Stables (entrance is R20 and goes to an animal charity) or the Slow Market at Cedar Square – entrance is free on that one.

Super kids
Let the kids burn off all their energy and support a great cause on 8 December at the Garmin Super Kids Fun Day at Jozi X Adventure Centre. They call themselves the best adventure centre in South Africa, and for good reason. Kids (or all ages, even 38 and a half) can become soccer balls, shoot nerf guns, tackle obstacle courses, try archery and parkour, slip and slide… Entrance is R50 a person and goes to CHOC Cancer Foundation for children.

An evening that goes right
Back by popular demand, The Play that Goes Wrong, is on at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino from 7 December to 6 January. It’s the longest running play currently on Broadway and for good reason. It’s about a murder mystery play that falls apart, and will have you crying with laughter.

🚨WE’RE ONLY GOING TO DO THIS… ONE. MORE. TIME!🚨 • Due to unmatched public demand, we bring you the final Victory-Lap tour of #theplaythatgoeswrongSA • This hilarious comedy returns to the Theatre on the Bay from 9 November – 1 December and Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 7 December – 6 January 2019. • Directed by Alan Committie • The crazy cast of eight features Daniel Janks, Nicole Franco, Sive Gubangxa, Louis Viljoen, Craig Jackson, Roberto Pombo and Russel Savadier and welcoming Antony Coleman to the mad-house! • Everything that can possibly go wrong does, to hilarious effect, and audiences find the resulting chaos so funny that the entire theatre ends up in complete, total, happy disarray, night after night. • Excellent comedy timing, expert verbal and physical funnies, it’s one of the best comedies to hit the stage for some time. • What the press have said: • “The Play That Goes Wrong is hilariously bonkers, but be warned, rather than just tickling your funny bone, you might actually be at risk of fracturing it. Thank goodness for the armrests, probably the only thing that prevented certain audience members from actually rolling in the aisles. “ – @whatsoninjoburg • “It’s all about good actors acting badly to make a good show. More than good – bloody brilliant. Do yourself a favour and catch this one. Like me, you may be bowled over …” – Weekend Special • “I’d watch this lovely lunacy in again in an instant” – @dailymaverick • “The Play That Goes Wrong is an excellent example of how top-notch directing, acting, lighting, costuming, music and sets can keep an audience laughing for two hours” – @capetimessa • Bookings through @computicket •

A cinema made for kids

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Ster Kinekor

Last weekend we were spoiled by Ster-Kinekor and Fourways Mall at the opening of Ster-Kinekor’s brand-new theatre for kids. It was a fab way to spend a Sunday. Warning: this might make you jealous.

Kidz rule
This cinema was designed with little people in mind. The seats are bright and colourful and instead of taking the steps down into the theatre, kids can zoom right down on the slide and land in a ball pit. #walkingsoboring

Nobody was Grinchy
Because it’s that time of the year, it wouldn’t be right to not watch a festive movie, so The Grinch it was. Before the show started, the kids got colouring in masks and lots of yummy snacks and green cupcakes.

Confession: while the little ones were colouring, this is pretty much what we did.

A billion reasons the grass is greenest in Fourways

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Property values

We’ve always known that Fourways is the best place to live in Joburg and the new developments are making it better, but we didn’t realise that there are over a billion rand, sorry, reasons why that’s true.

Super powered
Shopping lovers, sit down for this: The new Fourways Mall will be 178,000m2 once it’s complete. To understand exactly what that number means, let’s put it this way: The new mall will be the biggest in Sub-Saharan Africa! And with over 8 000 parking bays, there’s space for everyone to pull in. If you are not a shopping lover, you should still be excited, because a lot of revenue is going to start pouring into our hood. Ka-ching!

How much for that house?
All that money isn’t just going to stay in the mall developers’ pockets. It’s landing in ours too! Research by Property24 shows that despite a generally slow property market, prices in Fourways are increasing. The average selling price for a house is R2.255 million, and the average apartment sells for R1.5 million. Nice!

Planes, trains and automobiles
Jam goes on toast, not in traffic. Did you know that both Steyn City and Fourways Mall have paid to upgrade the roads around them? Steyn City has contributed a hefty R1 billion (!!!) to upgrading the R511, William Nicol and Cedar roads, as well as sewage and water infrastructure. The developers of Fourways Mall spent R300 million widening Witkoppen Road and building the flyovers that will take motorists directly into the mall parking.

Getting into Fourways is going to get much easier with a Gautrain station in the works, as well as an expected upgrade to Lanseria Airport. They’re in talks with Botswanan, Namibian and Mauritian airlines, so hold thumbs.

The grass is greener in Fourways!

Float away in a balloon of happiness

It’s your Fourways entertainment roundup

For bumps, babies and toddlers
If you have one of these (or are thinking of getting a bump) then the Mama Magic Baby Expo is the place to be this weekend. You’ll scoop amazing specials on everything you need, get expert advice, stand the chance to win amazing prizes and even meet the purplest dinosaur ever, Barney! It’s on from 29 November to 2 December at the TicketPro Dome.

No Humbugs here!
Dickens’ classic story, A Christmas Carol, is on at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Monte from 28 November to 6 January. Take the family and travel in time with Ebenezer Scrooge as he remembers what is really important. Get your tickets.

Cheese please!
When it comes to pizza, our motto is always, “the more, the cheesier”. Luckily for us, Tiger’s Milk has a weekly Chooseday special. Order two pizzas and you get the cheapest one free! Woo hoo! This Chooseday we’re thinking of the Three Little Piggies (bacon, chorizo and pepperoni) and a Saucy Mexican with spicy mince, fresh avo and chipotle sour cream.

Rolling in the aisles
US funnymanDave Chappelle is performing in Joburg for two nights only. Catch this comedy legend at the Teatro at Montecasino on 5 and 6 December. Be warned: this is not for those whose feathers are easily ruffled. There are still tickets available, but don’t wait too long.
