Make your home office decor work for you

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Office decor

Everyone with their own business knows that there’s no such thing as #instasuccess – it takes actual work, and a lot of it! But before you get your nose to the grindstone, why not refresh your home office decor? After all, if you work in a space that looks great, you’ll want to spend more time in it, and it’ll be totally #instaworthy. We went shopping at Fourways Mall for office decor, and this is what we found.

Work zone
The cornerstone of any office is the desk. And if you’re in a small space and your desk needs to go in the corner, this Newport desk from Mr Price Home is for you. This Scandinavian inspired (but locally made) pale wood piece is stylish yet simple, and has handy compartments to keep your work space organised.

Power seat
Getting comfy and meaning business can happen at the same time in this Harvey chair from @home. With leather-like fabric, rich wood and dark steel, it looks awesome. And it’s got wheels, spins around and the seat height is adjustable. Not that we would ever mess around with those things as a way to procrastinate!

Get organised
Having everything in its place saves time and just makes your office feel calmer. The thing we love about these storage boxes from Beetroot Inc. is that you can pick your sizes and colours and stack them in the way that works best for you.

Sparkle and shine
Work is only dull if you let it be. Sprinkle some magic on your to-do list with this unicorn pencil holder from Sheet Street. We just love its gold horn and little eyelashes! Every time you reach for a pen you’ll get a pop of rainbow happiness.

The Refillery is our planet-friendly, zero-waste store

Get the 411 Everything Fourways The Refillery Zero-waste

We’re super excited that a brand new planet-friendly store, The Refillery, is opening at Cedar Square on 15 March! We’re all about being good earth-dwellers, so we are very excited to get shopping, eco-warrior style. As they say, there is no planet B.

Bring your own
The Refillery is basically a shop where you can stock up on your pantry essentials, like rice, tea, coffee, beans, pasta, spices and snacks, but instead of taking it home in a plastic container or bag, you scoop the amount you want into your own glass jars. If you are just starting out, you can buy jars from the store, or use their recycled paper bags. They don’t mind if you bring your own plastic container – the goal is to get rid of single-use plastic. Simple, easy and kind to the planet.

Oh, 95% of their products are locally sourced, and 75% of them are organic. So it’s good stuff.

But I don’t want to be a hippy!
One of our favourite things about The Refillery is that it’s not about a radical lifestyle shift. You don’t need to go entirely off the grid and make your own toothpaste out of bicarb and potato peels to do your part. If we all make a few small changes, it adds up to a big difference. You don’t even have to give up your little luxuries. Try the 100% biodegradable Nespresso compatible coffee pods. Within 90 days of you enjoying your coffee, your pod will have completely disintegrated!

(Btw, you can get eco-friendly toothpaste powder from The Refillery. It comes in a snappy little tin. Please do not start rubbing potato peels on your teeth. We totally made that up.)

It all adds up
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again (to remind ourselves): our daily choices have consequences that add up over time. So what can we do on a regular basis that is friendly to the only home we have – planet earth?

  • Invest in a sassy water bottle that you’ll want to carry around with you. While you’re at it, get a reusable shopping tote.
  • Make small switches, like using a beeswax wrap instead of cling film. (This is fabric that is treated with wax. You mould it over bowls for lids or wrap your sandwiches in it, then rinse clean.)
  • Find out where to take your recyclables in your neighbourhood.
  • Support businesses that are committed to the environment, like The Refillery!

Chicken dishes that will have you crowing with delight!

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Chicken recipes

Chicken a grocery staple, but sometimes we get stuck in a bit of a recipe rut, cooking up the same old stir fries and grilled chicken breasts. So we went hunting for inspiration on our second favourite place: the Internet. (Our most favourite place is Fourways, of course!) Try these recipes and you’ll be crowing with delight.

For a quick and delish dinner in under 20 minutes, Mexican chicken pasta by Delish is your friend. It’s flavoured with the warm spicy tastes of Mexico with cumin, oregano and chili. The dish is finished off with cheese (mmm) and milk for super creaminess. If you can’t get Monterey Jack cheese, just double up with cheddar.

Does it all on one
Let’s face it. Cooking is only one part of the work because there are dishes to do at the end. One-pot dishes make life so much easier, and once you taste Laughing Spatula’s roast chicken with sausage and potato bake, it will become a go-to meal for you and your family. (Do yourself a favour and check out their recipes. Simple and yummy!)

The spice route
Curry favour with your friends and family when you make this five ingredient chicken tikka masala by Pinch of Yum. They have a recipe for making your own masala paste – great for when you’ve got time to enjoy cooking – but you can get it premade from the supermarket.

South African Italian taste sensation
Chicken scarpariello is an Italian American dish that usually uses red peppers and sometimes sausage too, flavoured with herbs and lemon. This version by Food and Wine switches the peppers for our very own Peppadews for a spicy sweetness. Serve it with rice, or crusty bread if you don’t want another thing to wash up.

Get splashy at Happy Island

Calling all water lovers, adrenaline junkies and fun seekers! Mega water park Happy Island has opened in Muldersdrift, and it’s got a whole load of splashy fun for everyone.

Slip n slide
There’s no such thing as a water park without slides. Happy Island has a whole boatload of them for us to choose from. There’s a relatively tame Rainbow Slide and a Lazy River to float along without shrieking. If you want something that will make you scream, however, you are in luck.
For an entry level thrill, there’s a high speed slide that will have you zipping down it at 40km an hour. Wanna go faster? The Gravity Loop is high up and whizzes you down at 60km an hour!

Hold on tight!
Get four of your friends on a raft and fly around the Behemoth Bowl before splashing into the pool at the bottom. Or look danger in the face and laugh on the Typhoon. You get sucked into the typhoon and go round and round and round and round and round… All super fast.

Chill out
When you are all screamed out – or if you’re just a person who has a healthy respect for gravity – hit the wave pool. It’s the biggest in Africa! Or calm down in a massage pool after you have faced the Typhoon.

Party on
There are plenty of age-appropriate features for kids. A splash park for littlies, smaller slides and a trip through an Amazon rainforest. Happy Island is also an exciting place to host birthday parties.

Let’s go already
Tickets are R199 are for people above 1.3m tall. If you’re shorter than that, it’s R99. If you are younger than two, you get in for free. The park is at 107 Lake View Drive, Muldersdrift (just off Beyers Naude). The perfect destination for a family day out!

Red hot Oscar looks

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Academy Awards

The Oscars are full of glamour, drama, laughs and love. And that’s just the red carpet. Choosing our favourite looks from the 2019 Academy Awards was no easy task, but it had to be done. There are a few people who also appeared in our Golden Globes fashion roundup, and you’ll see exactly why. Also, Billy Porter is our new style hero.

Better than Oscar
Billy Porter blew us away at the Globes with his bejewelled suit, topped with a cape that had a hot pink lining. Well, for the Oscars he turned it down a bit in a lush black velvet tuxedo dress with a voluminous skirt. He told Vogue: “People are going to be really uncomfortable with my black ass in a ball gown – but it’s not anybody’s business but mine!” Well Billy, we think you’re hot!

Queen of the carpet
Regina King was another person who featured in our Golden Globes picks. When we saw her classic white draped gown, we fell in love. The simple elegance was taken up several notches with the draping over her hip that showed off her legs. And she took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress!

The glam U give
Rising star Amandla Stenberg channeled old-style Hollywood glam in a gorgeous beaded sheath dress. After her astounding performance in The Hate U Give, we’re sure we’re going to be seeing this talented actress on red carpets for years to come.

Looking like 30 million bucks
That’s exactly what Lady Gaga had dangling around her neck for the evening. The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is 287.42 carats and is worth $30 million – and it was found in South Africa. (Any chance of us getting it back?)

Regal and powerful
Angela Bassett captivated our hearts in her hot pink gown adorned with an oversized bow on the shoulder. Majestic and magnificent.

Chicago is hitting the stage

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Chicago

Prepare to be dazzled because the hit Broadway musical Chicago is hitting the stage at Montecasino from 20 April!

Razzle dazzle
If you don’t know the story, you are in for a treat! It’s a tale of a doe-eyed nightclub singer, Roxy Hart, who is accused of murdering her husband; her smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn; and the double-murderess Velma Kelly she meets in prison. The cell block is full of women who have killed the men in their lives, but as they all claim, “He had it coming!”

The show is packed with musical hits (which you might find yourself singing after the show, much to your partner’s horror), sexy, sensational dancing and costumes, and an amazing set that also manages to get a live orchestra on stage!

All star cast
The South African cast features local stars Samantha Peo, Ilse Klink and Craig Urbani. Internationally, stars such as Todrick Hall and Mel B have taken the stage, and who can forget the movie starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere?

This devilishly delicious musical has brought cheering audiences to their feet all around the world, from Australia to Argentina and Spain – now it’s South Africa’s turn again. Over 31 million people have seen Chicago, which has played over 32,500 performances worldwide, and for good reason. It’s amazing!

All that jazz
Chicago is based on a play written by journalist Maurine Dallas in 1926. She was inspired by the sensational real-life trials of two women who were accused of killing their lovers whilst under the influence of drink and jazz.

In 1975, the legendary Broadway trio of John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (book/lyrics) and Bob Fosse (co-author, original director and choreographer) adapted the play into Chicago, the musical we know and love today.

Chicago is on at the Teatro at Monte from 20 April to 26 May. Get your tickets!

We’re going dotty for patterns and prints

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Mall shopping

Fashion is about expressing oneself, and we’re feeling playful. A recent shopping trip to Fourways Mall got us excited about patterns and prints. From wild stripes to whisper soft florals, there’s a look for every mood and moment.

Artistic flair
Express yourself in this Bobbie tunic dress from Poetry. The capped sleeves and knee-length hem are perfect for staying cool in the last weeks of summer, and the tie-belt gives a flattering cinch at the waist. The colours are soft and dreamy. When the days turn cooler, just add a jacket – denim and leather would both be amazing.

Grrrrrl power!
Animal stripes keep coming back, and for good reason. They are freaking fab! This top from Mr Price has got the classic black and white zebra stripe, but the neon chevron gives a modern pop that shows people you mean business! If you are feeling super wild, pair it with another pattern (preferably something that clashes a little, like a check) or stick to a solid colour for days when you’re feeling calmer.

Petal soft
Forever New is a great place to pick up party frocks, and we couldn’t resist this Erin ruffle dress. With its sheer fabric, ruffles that curl up from the hem and soft laced neckline, it’s just crying to be worn to a garden party. (We will wear it everywhere though.) One thing’s for sure, you’ll never be mistaken for a wallflower in this. The dress is so pretty that the only accessories you need are sassy shoes.

Tropical heat
The other side of floral is big, bold and tropical. Foschini’s floral kimono with large vibrant blooms set against black is a style statement. Wear it over black pants to knock off all the socks in a business meeting, or slip it over jeans for a cool yet chic look for a weekend lunch.

We’ve designed a beautiful week of entertainment for you

A wonderful night out
This Friday eve, 22 February, there’s a party like no other at Chicago’s Piano Bar at Waterford. Our favourite local rockers, Wonderboom, will be on stage spoiling us with songs from their newest album, Rising Sun. Get ready to rock out to fresh tracks like Praying Mantis and In Place of Something. If we’re lucky they’ll treat us to the songs we fell in love with 22 years ago – yes that’s how long they’ve been playing. This is one to get your tickets for.

Laughs from Down Under
Australian stand-up comedian, political commentator, actor and writer Jim Jefferies is bringing his unique brand of humour to The Teatro at Montecasino on 22, 23, and 24 February. His newest show, The Night Talker Tour, has his unusual and controversial takes on everyday life and world events. This isn’t for under 16s or anyone who is easily offended or put off by rude words.

Run to the brand-new Kids Gym!

Get the 411 Everything Fourways Kids Gym Cedar Square

There’s a brand-new kid on the block at Cedar Square: The Kids Gym! It’s a fun, non-competitive place where kids from 18 months (you gotta start them young if you want to raise the next Serena) to 15 years can get fit, strong and healthy.

The Kids Gym is kind of like a grown-ups gym in that there classes (like core fitness, tumbling and even Zumba!) but there aren’t any weights. Kids use their own body weight and state-of-the-art equipment to develop functional fitness in a fun way.

The NinjaZone is what we’re using to tempt our kids away from their gadgets and get moving. It’s a combination of gymnastics, martial arts, obstacle courses and freestyle movement that builds the strength, agility, stealth and mental prowess of trained ninjas!

The inspiration behind it all
The man with the vision for The Kids Gym is Glenn Joselowitz. The former gymnastics coach was inspired by his daughter Emily to create a space where children of all abilities could benefit from exercise and the skills development it brings. Emily was born with a rare neuromuscular condition, so he created a space that catered for her individual needs. If you have a special needs child, they are welcome at Kids Gym and the fitness experts can cater to their requirements.

#Repost @beautifulnewssa ・・・ A parent will do anything for their child. When Glenn Joselowitz’s daughter was born with a rare neuromuscular condition, he was determined to provide her with the best care. Emily had arthrogryposis, a disorder causing stiff, weak joints. As an avid athlete and former gymnastics coach, Joselowitz knew exercise could change a life. So he took his daughter with him to gym, slowly but surely helping her build her strength and flexibility. But it wasn’t the right place for someone her age, surrounded by adults and giant equipment. She needed a space where she could be a child. “The idea for a kids’ gym was born when I imagined running a mile in my daughter’s shoes,” Joselowitz says. . . . . . #thekidsgym #childhoodunplugged #themagicofchildhood #fitkids #pixel_kids #boymomlife #instalike #motherhood #thehappynow #pixel_panda #mylifeinpictures #kidsgymnastics #kidsgym #indoorplay #HypeBeast #lensculture #exploremore #fitisfun #loveandlight #storytelling #postthepeople #makemoments #ohheymama #cityofcapetown #localislekker #lovelocalza #weheartsa #amazingcapetown #capetownsouthafrica
